Terrain
Terrain
The Skeena Mountain range has a huge diversity of terrain, from the high vertical slopes with extreme steeps to powder bowls with pillows and shoots as well as sweeping glades and a good selection of tree skiing providing Heliskiing opportunities during bad weather periods. Through its geographical location and diversity of terrain down day chances are slim.
Temperature
The more northerly location inplies colder skiing days. However, due to its relative closeness to the Pacific Ocean, temprature extremes are rare. Somewhat moister snow conditions mostly add to snow stability. Average temperature between January and March is -8 to -3 degrees celsius. On extremely cold days the temperature may drop to minus 25.
Snow Quality
White Wilderness is in an area with average high quality snow conditions. Its north-westerly location not too far from the ocean normally guarantees lots of fresh snow. The risk of rain and fog is lower than in locations closer to he sea or further south.
Accommodation
Skeena Salmon Lodge
The rustic, comfortable and stylish Lodge compound has recently been extended and tastefully furnished.
The main building comprises Lounge, Bar and Dinner room along with an open kitchen and a large and homely guest room. The big secondary complex consists of a sports area, several single rooms and the wellness facilities. Additional guest rooms are in a newly added Lodgecomplex as well as in several nicely furnished 2 to 4 guest chalets.
A jaccuzzi in an open area invites for pleasurable nature tasting after skiing. - The Heli pad is right around the corner of the lodge area.
Heli & safety
Helicopters
White Wilderness Heliskiing has chosen to use B2 or B3 helicopters as they allow to access the best of their terrain in almost all conditions and better cater for their smaller groups of up to 4 guests and one guide each.
Guides
White Wilderness Heliskiing only employs UIAGM or ACMG certified and highly experienced guides as they are there to ensure your safety whilst leading your group.
Getting there
White Wilderness Heliskiing is located only 3 hours from Vancouver and 4 hours Calgary! Direct flights are available from Vancouver International Airport and via Prince George from Calgary International Airport. From here you are collected by the van shuttle for the ½ hr drive to the lodge.
We recommend - if you are coming from Europe to Vancouver - flying with a Star Alliance carrier, and book the connecting flight to Terrace with Air Canada. That will insure that all flights are on the same ticket. This will make things easier if there are any delays, as well on your return trip. You can check in your luggage in Terrace and it will go directly to Europe, with no need to handle it in Vancouver.
