Terrain

For heliski fanatics, this is 1,500 miles of bliss

We ski within a 1,500 square mile heliski operating area. Our standard trips include a wide variety of terrain, from open alpine bowls, to treed and gladed runs, and expansive glaciers. Our heli-skiing runs vary in length from 1,500 - 4,000 vertical feet and are between 9,000 and 3,500 feet in elevation.

The community is small, but don’t let that fool you—it just means each of our heli-skiers and boarders  gets more fresh, untouched mountain powder to themselves!

Crescent Spur is a tiny community in British Columbia, Canada, nestled in the northern Cariboo Mountains, and the northern Rocky Mountains (the Rockies). We are a (just under) two-hour drive, east of Prince George, the largest city in Northern BC. We are also not far from McBride, a small community just south-east of Crescent Spur, which got its start in the timber and agricultural industry after the Second World War.

A variety of diverse wildlife inhabits the northern British Columbia landscape, and the area is filled with rivers, streams, waterfalls, small glaciers, and lakes. The region has trees that are over 1,000 years old, and the world’s only inland temperate rainforest, created by all the moisture from the wind blowing rain and snow from the Cariboo Mountains.

The area has a humid, continental climate, with milder winters than one might expect for the elevation. Winter days average -7°C (19°F), while summer days are moderate, with temperatures usually in the mid 20°s (73°F), but occasionally reaching the mid 30°s (mid 90°sF).

Crescent Spur Lodge

Nestled between the northern Cariboos and northern Rockies, our ranch-style lodge is located in the tiny community of Crescent Spur (population 24), 6 km off the main highway.

Accented by huge hand-hewn fir logs, the architecture here was very much inspired by our wilderness surroundings. The lodge is beautifully structured with lots of natural local wood (clear fir and birch), with modern artistic touches of steel and river rock. Comfortable bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a spacious games room and lounge, two fireplaces, and a family style dining room contribute to a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Our guests tell us they love the intimate atmosphere of the lodge. While our heli-skiing is legendary, the guests who come back year after year say they return for the “whole” Crescent Spur experience.

Revel in our “one of a kind,” hand-crafted features

Many of the features within the lodge are hand-made and inspired by local materials. You’ll find hand-carved handles on doors and drawers, and naturally sourced wood and river rock incorporated into floor spaces.

Great spaces for socializing and relaxation

Our full-service bar and sunken fireplace provide a beautifully open yet intimate space where guests can freely relax, mingle, and socialize. Organic and inviting, the space works well with groups of all sizes. The cozy sunken fireplace area is perfect for drying off and curling up with a book.

Comfortable bedrooms with en suite bathrooms

You’ll love our cozy guest rooms with en suite bathrooms. Suites are spacious, with lots of closet and drawer space for your clothing. While most rooms are set up for double occupancy, we have a limited number of single rooms available.

Wireless internet access

Need to stay in touch with work or home? You can use one of our guest computers or our free wireless internet—available from anywhere in the lodge. It is important to note that our remote setting requires us to use satellite internet which is not as fast as high speed cable. The eccentricities of satellite internet can occasionally make connections more difficult.

It’s all in the details!

We’re skiers at heart, and this is reflected in everything we do. Our lodge features a number of small conveniences that make all the difference. For example: our boot and glove drying racks, which blow air to help speed the drying of your garments. We find sometimes it's the little things that can make a big difference.

Heli & safety

Crescent Spur Heliskiing

The helicopter that takes us to heli-ski Heaven!

Part of the wonder of heli-skiing is found in the helicopter. Our state-of-the-art Bell 205 is a thing of beauty, boasting incredible lifting capacity. It holds 10 heliski guests and 2 guides and is outfitted with precision equipment that allows our pilots to do their best work safely and accurately.

In heliskiing, safety simply has to come first

Our pilots are highly experienced in mountain flying—particularly in winter conditions—and are assisted by highly trained engineers. We hold a comprehensive helicopter safety and orientation review each week to give you a general understanding of the machines and safety considerations before going heliskiing in the mountains.

“Double” the heliski guides makes a difference!

A good heliski guide makes all the difference to a heli-skiing adventure. We think two guides per group is even better, as it gives our heliski and heli board guests a higher level of service and more options to customize their experience.
